Kingsland Prairie Natural Area, located in the Coastal Plain, Cleveland County consists of a mosaic of salt slick barrens, saline prairie, prairie mound woodlands, pine savanna, and bottomland hardwood forest communities. Soils at the site, containing high amounts of sodium, appear to account for the sparse and irregular distribution of trees and the resultant dominance of grasses and other herbaceous vegetation. The unique soils and sparse tree cover create ideal habitat for a number of rare herbaceous plant species including the federally threatened species Geocarpon minimum. Numerous shallow, seasonally-wet depressions in these prairies also provide for a rich diversity of plant species.

Directions
From Kingsland, travel northeast approximately 2.6 miles on State Highway 79. Turn right (southeast) onto Prairie Road and travel 1.2 miles to the "Y" in the road. Park along roadside.
