Miller County Sandhills Natural Area Updated:06/2022

Miller County Sandhills Natural Area, located in the Coastal Plain, is one of the few remaining examples of relatively undisturbed sandhill vegetation in southwestern Arkansas. The area is marked by rolling topography and sandy soils. The dry sandy soil supports a very distinctive flora, which includes a number of species characteristic of similar sites in eastern Texas. Some of the area is open and supports a "sandhill prairie," while the remainder is in hardwood forest characterized by a number of "scrub species." The Natural Heritage Commission and The Nature Conservancy share ownership of this area. The Nature Conservancy owns additional land adjacent to the natural area.

Directions
From Texarkana travel south on U.S. Highway 71 to State Highway 237. Travel south about 13.6 miles. The natural area is on the west side of State Highway 237. A primitive parking area is located about 0.8 mile south of the junction with State Highway 134 (County Road 434) on the west side of the road.
