Located in the Ozark Mountains, Izard County, the Devil’s Knob site is a limestone-dolomite-sandstone glade occurring about ten miles southwest of Melbourne. Local topography consists of an uplift mountain with two knolls joined by a saddle known as Devil’s Backbone. The vegetation of the natural area is generally of two types: upland hardwood and a cedar glade restricted to limestone-dolomite outcrops. Two uncommon plant species occur around the glade, Ashe’s juniper and silky aster. Many of the Ashe’s juniper are very old, the largest measuring 30 inches or more in diameter.

Directions
Travel north on State Highway 9 from Mountain View approximately 15 miles. Turn left on Mt. Olive Access Road and travel 1.3 miles to the natural area sign and small clearing on either side of the road for parking.
