We are part of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service’s statewide network and the University of Arkansas System’s Division of Agriculture.  Our mission is to provide research-based information through non-formal education to help all Arkansans improve their economic well-being and the quality of their lives.  Whether it is agriculture, 4-H, health and living, or community development, the Ouachita County Extension Office is at your service!

Ouachita County Master Gardener Program

The Master Gardener Volunteer program provides an opportunity for individuals interested in gardening to learn and serve their communities in Ouachita County. Master Gardeners volunteer on community projects to help make the community more attractive and eco-friendly. Interested in becoming a master gardener? Ouachita County Family and Consumer Sciences

Ouachita County Extension Service is dedicated to meeting the community education needs of its 26,120 residents with relevant programs. Much of the county population is aging, obese and living in poverty. This office is working to offer programs to relate to all these needs. The Ouachita office offers a variety of programs such as Strong Women/Men, Small Steps to Health and Wealth, Best Care, Guiding Children Successfully, Healthy Living Cooking Classes, Walk Across Ouachita County, Food Preservation and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

4-H Youth Development

The mission of 4-H is to provide opportunities for youth to acquire knowledge, develop life skills, form attitudes, and practice behavior that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. In Ouachita County today, there are 83 youth enrolled in 4-H Clubs, teams participants, as well as involved in out-of-school 4-H Youth Development educational programs throughout the year. Membership in 4-H is absolutely free and provides you with a world of opportunity!

Down the Garden Path

On the grounds of the Ouachita County Extension Service offices is a demonstration garden developed to be used for educational purposes for youth and adults. Classes in healthy cooking, vegetable gardening and youth education are held there or the harvest of the garden is used in programming.
