Saratoga Blackland Prairie Natural Area Updated:06/2022

Saratoga Blackland Prairie Natural Area, located in the Coastal Plain, Howard County, contains high quality blackland prairies and associated woodlands, with few non-native invasive species. The woodlands contain a diverse collection of mature hardwood trees; however, decades of fire suppression have impaired natural ecological processes and changed the structure of the plant communities. Based on experience at other natural areas, introduction of prescribed fire will rapidly restore the natural composition of prairies and woodlands to the area.

Hunting is prohibited on this natural area.
