Purchased in 1973, Trusten Holder WMA contains approximately 10,268 acres and is cooperatively owned and managed by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. This WMA is located in Arkansas and Desha Counties; 35 miles SE of De Witt, near Lock & Dam
#1 on the White River. In Desha County, the area is located 15 miles NE of
Dumas near Pendleton bridge on the Arkansas River. Consisting primarily of bottomland hardwoods, the WMA provides excellent wetlands habitat for native wildlife and migrating waterfowl. Fishing is best during spring and early summer and Bald and Golden eagles can be observed along the Arkansas/White Rivers ship canal during the winter months.
Hunting opportunities include deer, turkey, squirrel, furbearers, quail, dove and waterfowl. Unique hunting regulations apply to the Trusten Holder area; see Arkansas Hunting Guidebook for details.
There are 5 primitive camping areas located in Arkansas County. Merrisach Park is a fee area with all the modern facilities. Pendleton Park located along Hwy 212 East, has water and electrical service at each of its 13 sites, a fee is charged and the park is open year round. Wilbur D. Mills Park is just down stream of Dam # 2 on the Desha County side of the river and offers the same services as Pendleton park, March through October.
